 Hot Water News-MayMinimize

Dear $(FirstName)

Block tariffs – what is it?

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) decided to implement inclining block tariffs concurrently with the Eskom price increase to all existing Eskom residential tariffs. These rates were applied to conventionally metered, non-local authority, residential supplies from 1 April 2010.

What does it mean?

The more you consume, the higher your average price. Consumers are charged at higher rates as their consumption becomes higher. There are four consumption blocks, and every block has a higher price per kWh of energy. The amount you owe at the end of the month is the sum of the consumption per block multiplied by the energy rate per unit for each block.

How can I benefit from the block tariff system?

Consumers can benefit from the new system by lowering consumption. Consumers with a lower consumption rate (generally below 1 000kWh per month) will see a reduction or very small increases in their bill. Those with a usage greater than 2 000kWh will experience price increases that are greater than the average price increase.

How do I lower my consumption?

You can lower your consumption by installing a solar water heater. Solar technology is one of the most effective renewable energy devices available, and it is ideal for the sunny South African climate. A standard geyser can consume up to 40% of electricity used in your home. If you replace your old geyser with a solar water heater, you can expect to save between 50% and 90% of your home’s hot water requirements. Want to find out how much you’ll save? Up the value of your property

Not too sure whether to fork out extra cash for a solar water heater, especially when you might be moving house in the near future? A study by bond originators ooba  found that 49% of the respondents in a recent survey indicated that features such as solar water heaters, water-conservation technologies and insulation influence the buying decision of prospective homeowners.

Add the harsh reality of accumulating electricity price hikes of 25% for the next two years (and possibly more to come), new homeowners will need all the help they can get. Your Solahart solar water heater won’t only save you money on your electricity bills, but will also add more value to your property. And that might just get your house noticed amidst the competitive property market.
